Rootlette Support
Last updated: 2026-08-11
Need help with Rootlette? Email contact@lightbulblabs.net and we'll get back to you. Include your device type (iPhone/Android) and the app version if it's a bug report.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
Neither. Rootlette has no sign-up and no sign-in, and the entire word curriculum ships inside the app — it works fully offline. The only thing that needs a connection is loading an ad; if you're offline, the app skips it and takes you straight to the next word.
Why am I seeing ads, and can I remove them?
Ads are how Rootlette stays free. An interstitial appears between words after every few words you complete — the first few words in a day are always uninterrupted. There is no paid version and no in-app purchase, and no word or feature is ever locked behind an ad: ads affect your pace, never your access.
Does the app listen to me?
Only while you're doing the "say it back" step, and only on your device. Speech recognition runs entirely on-device — your voice is never recorded to a file and never sent to us or to any online service. If you'd rather not use it, decline the microphone permission; the rest of the app works normally.
Where is my progress stored, and how do I delete it?
Everything — words learned, review schedule, streak — is stored only on your device. We have no server and can't see it. To remove it all, uninstall Rootlette. Note that if your device's iCloud or Android backup is enabled, a copy may live in that backup, which is managed by Apple or Google.
I got a new phone. Can I move my progress?
There's no account to sign in to, so progress doesn't sync between devices. If you restore your new phone from a full device backup, your progress usually comes across with it; a fresh install starts from the beginning.
How do I turn the daily reminder off?
Turn off notifications for Rootlette in your device's system settings — iOS: Settings → Notifications → Rootlette; Android: Settings → Apps → Rootlette → Notifications. Reminders are scheduled locally on your device, so nothing is sent to a server either way.
I think a definition or etymology is wrong
Please tell us — email contact@lightbulblabs.net with the word and what looks off. Content corrections ship in app updates, so you'll pick them up the next time you update Rootlette.
Something's not working
Try force-closing and reopening the app first, and make sure you're on the latest version. If that doesn't help, email contact@lightbulblabs.net with a description of what happened, your device type, and your app version — we'll follow up.
