IBD symptom tracker for iPhone & iPad
The IBD symptom tracker that's fast enough to stick with
A private health journal for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis — log symptoms, bowel movements, and meals in a few taps, and bring clear trends to your next GI appointment.
Your flare trend, at a glance
What is GutTrack?
GutTrack is a free IBD tracking app for iPhone and iPad, built for people living with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. It makes daily symptom tracking fast enough to actually stick with, and clear enough to bring straight to your gastroenterologist. Log a bowel movement, a symptom flare, or a meal in a few taps — GutTrack quietly converts what you log into a clinical-style score (based on the Bristol Stool Scale and a partial Mayo-style index) so you can see at a glance, green–amber–red, whether things are trending toward a flare.
What you can track
-
Bowel movements
Rated on the Bristol Stool Scale — the same 1–7 chart your GI uses — in a couple of taps.
-
Flare symptoms
Pain, urgency, blood, and other symptoms, logged the moment they happen so nothing gets forgotten.
-
Food diary & meal photos
Meals logged alongside symptoms on one timeline, so patterns between food and flares become visible.
-
Trends, simply visualized
Daily and weekly trends with a green–amber–red flare signal — no interpreting raw numbers yourself.
-
Reports for your GI
Your history organized the way a gastroenterologist thinks about it, exportable as PDF or CSV.
-
Weekly check-in
A short reflection on the past two weeks, scored alongside your daily entries.
Private by design
Your health data stays on your device. GutTrack has no account system and no server for your tracked data — nothing you log is uploaded, and no one at Lightbulb Labs can see it. The app doesn't access Apple Health, doesn't show ads, and doesn't sell data. Analytics are strictly opt-in. This is a journal, not a data product. Full details are in the GutTrack privacy policy.
Why keep an IBD symptom diary?
Between appointments, memory is a poor historian — most people can recall their worst day but not the shape of a whole month. A consistent symptom log helps you and your care team spot the early drift toward a flare, connect symptoms to foods or stress, and judge whether a treatment change is actually working. The catch is consistency: a tracker only helps if logging takes seconds, not minutes. That's the entire design goal of GutTrack.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best way to track IBD symptoms?
The most useful log is the one you keep up daily: bowel movements on the Bristol Stool Scale, flare symptoms like pain, urgency, and blood, and what you ate. GutTrack is built around exactly that — each entry takes a few taps, and your history turns into simple daily and weekly trends you can show your gastroenterologist.
Is GutTrack free?
Yes — free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, with no account required.
Is my health data private?
Yes. Everything you log stays on your device. There's no account and no server for your tracked data, so we never see it. Details in the privacy policy.
Does it work for both Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis?
Yes. GutTrack tracks the symptoms common to both — bowel habits, pain, urgency, blood — and scores them with a clinical-style index so you can see whether things are trending toward a flare.
Can I share my history with my doctor?
Yes. Export your data as a PDF or CSV from the app and hand over weeks of organized history at your next GI appointment.
Does GutTrack help find food triggers?
Meals and photos sit on the same timeline as your symptoms, which makes patterns easier to spot. It won't diagnose triggers for you — bring any patterns you notice to your doctor or dietitian.
Is GutTrack available for Android?
Not yet — GutTrack is currently available for iPhone and iPad. If you'd like to hear when that changes, email contact@lightbulblabs.net.
GutTrack is a personal tracking tool, not a medical device, and is not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always talk to your doctor about your symptoms and care plan.
